And so it happens that we humans love the drama of nature. Let's face it, right here in the United States we have many natural wonders that are incredible to behold...take the Grand Canyon! WOW! what an amazing natural wonder. Or the Grand Tetons, Bad Lands, New Hampshire's Old Man of the Mountain (may he rest in peace) so many of our valleys and mountains were created out of turbulent forces of nature. Some of these were created in an instant, some of them have been destroyed in an instant, but all of them are incredible.
We look at the rugged coastal cliffs and glacial valleys in awe, but when it comes to our own lives, it seems that we don't want to evolve and grow because it is too uncomfortable. To some degree, growth comes from massive change; metamorphosis. How can we break out of our current mold if we don't want to go through the uncomfortable process of change? What would our mountains be if they had the choice of going through change? Sometimes the more drastic the change the more beautiful the outcome...yet, as individuals we resist the type of change that brings lasting beauty. (and no this is not a political message) this is a personal growth message.
We can even see the evidence of this concept in business. Raw natural resources go through a tremendously arduous process to become steel. This same steel is used to build some of the most incredible structures that humans have ever built, but it all starts with a rugged, tumultuous process.
We must be willing to go through these processes as well if we want to get to a different place or if we want to have a beautiful outcome in our life. We are in the process right now whether you believe it or not. I am not saying that it is an absolute necessity to have tumultuous processes in your life in ourder for it to have a beautiful outcome, but those times should not be avoided for the sake of comfort.
Babies come into the world in one of the most violent ways possible, but somehow nature makes sure that we come through it ok. We don't know what we our minds and bodies are capable of and most people are afraid to test their limits. Each person is a potential mountain range of possibility and Grand Canyon of peace. It is within us to harness the power of nature to carve and chisel our own character and our own future. It is not going to be easy and it is not going to be a comfortable journey; it wasn't meant to be. This is a journey of growth and passion, we are alive and we are always growing and moving like the lava flowing from a volcano. Mountains are made this way. Men are made this way. Countries are made this way.

I have said it before and I will say it again!
If you want to start your own business, you might as well go into therapy.
You can't run away from the universal lessons of your life. The universe will keep chasing you down to teach you the same lessons over and over again. It really doesn't matter if you can articulate what your lessons to be learned are...the universe knows. You can move across the country or start another business or fire everybody, but the bottom line is that you can't run away from your issues or lessons.
Just like school, you cannot go to the next grade until you get past the lessons for that grade. I think that being in business brings issues faster and harder than regular life. Issues compile at a higher rate and they won't go away unless they are dealt with. The issues and lessons will come harder and become bigger if we just learn to deal with them without addressing the actual cause of the problem. It may even come to pass that we become very adept at dealing with problems which masks the actual source of the problem. As I am writing this, I can think of so many instances that this is true...I can think of so many disorders that this comes to pass.
The real growth comes from taking the time to look inside of ourselves to find out what we are doing to manifest the issue or lesson. Until that happens, little to no growth can occur. While we take a deeper look at ourselves, we begin to recognize a disturbance that we begin to acknowledge as "not right." In my opinion it is important to recognize it for what it is and not to judge it...just recognize it. Judging (in my experience) tends to bring it to the foreground and amplify the problem. Recognize it and acknowledge it.
Once recognized it is easier to see how things develop and manifest and it is easier to accept that it is us and our ego that brings scenarios into action. All of this can be expedited if you choose to go into business either with yourself or with partners. There will come a time when an issue arises that will demand to be dealt with. The universe will apparently go away, but if the issue is not solved, it will come back in spades.
The goal is not to live a life without issues, that would be a dull life and one indicative of no growth. Our goal should be to get to a higher and higher place where the issues become less about ourselves and more about higher thoughts and concepts. We cannot get to higher concepts without un mucking the issues in our own consciousness. We are tethered to common problems when we are tackling the issues of our self. Until those are resolved to the degree that we have established a method and mechanism to instantaneously resolve them, we will be relegated to dealing with these problems "manually." When we can deal with these problems and issues "automatically" we will begin to graduate to a higher level of challenges and issues.
Yeah...and you thought you were just going into business! Your head has to be screwed on straight for you to be truly successful. You may indeed make a million dollars, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you are a highly evolved being...it doesn't mean you are not a highly evolved being either.
anyway, congratulations for jumping into the business world.
Good luck

Money is energy
Time is not money...
Money is like a battery. This is your thought of the day. You don't necessarily need to agree or disagree with me, just consider it. When you break it down, money is really just energy. When we go to work, we are giving our energy to some cause or project. At the end of the week, we expect some form of payment...giving us energy back would be hard to buy things with, so we get money.
The money that we receive is just a temporary form of energy. In and of itself, money is of very little value. It doesn't taste very good, and it burns very quickly if you light a match to it. In fact, a $100 bill and a $1 bill burn at exactly the same rate...that is amazing. So, the money itself isn't valuable or energy, but it represents those two things. Consider that you can store up the energy that you have spent at work and other places in a place called a bank, where you put your money (battery). When you are ready to spend some money (energy) you plug in your battery and expend some of that hard earned energy for some other goods or services that someone else has created with their energy...thus, we have just traded some of our stored energy for someone else's stored energy. Very interesting.
Now consider that some people seem to accomplish so many things in their life and you are left to wonder how someone else can accomplish so much in the same amount of time that you have...how is that? I propose that it has to do with the focus of energy in their lives. There are many different types of energy that we have access to on any given day. Most people equate money to being the one thing they need to get things accomplished (yes, I am making a broad statement, based on vague assumptions...deal with it for the moment) Money is certainly a good thing to have if you want to make a difference, but it is only one of many different forms of energy that we have at our disposal. Furthermore, it is the most limiting of all our energy sources.
Here are a couple of sources of energy that we have access to on a regular basis that you may or may not have considered.
-Thoughts-It has been proven and widely accepted that our thoughts are tiny electric impulses in our brain. Electricity is a form of energy in case you live under a rock and didn't know that. So, something as simple as our thoughts can be converted into energy. The key here is to direct your thoughts towards one thing as often as possible. You may be focused on solving a problem, or completing a task or any one of a million different things. The point is that YOU can control your thoughts. The power of that idea is lost on most people.
-Feelings-What we feel is a type of energy as well. I know there are those that would disagree that feelings are a type of energy but if you don't believe me consider the following; haven't you known people in your life who are always feeling down, or depressed. Think about how you feel when you are around that person. Have you ever heard anyone say that someone "drains" them. Of course, we all have. Consider for a moment, that these people drain us of our energy! Isn't that amazing? And haven't we all been around someone who gets us fired up? They give us energy! So, as humans, our feelings and emotions are a type of energy that we can use to create or distroy.
If we think about our solution and have positive emotions, we will make more progress than if we didn't think about the solution at all or with negative emotions. So far, we are in control of our energy. Let's keep exploring...
-Food-The choices that we make when we nourish our bodies makes a profound difference in the way that we are able to move about and accomplish physical tasks throughout the day. But it also has a profound impact on our thoughts and our feelings about ourselves and the world around us. We can certainly affect our health by choosing our food wisely, but it is also true (I posit) that a healthy body has a healthier thought process and a healthier potential to think clearly and creatively.
-The words we speak are another form of energy that we have ultimate control over. In my opinion, this is one of the most over looked areas of available energy. We should speak wisely. Our words do have an impact on our surroundings especially when they are infused with emotion. If you don't believe me, go yell at your dog and see what the impact is. Even if you yell in a language that your dog doesn't understand, it will still cower and react negatively. Words can build and words can destroy and more often than not it is the INTENT that does the building or destroying. We should speak with clarity and understand the intent when we speak or even write, because writing can have the same if not even greater impact than speaking.
Our vocation is also a great source of energy. I have had the great opportunity to be a part of our military and it was unfathomable to me that people would start counting down from 10 years out about how many days they had left in the Navy. If you don't like it, get the hell out! Don't count down, get out at your next opportunity. If you are drained at the end of the day, it is because you are not "charged" by your work. Or it may be that you are totally into your work and you are just drained...My point is that your work, your vocation either gives you energy or takes energy from you. Only you can tell if your work is good or bad for you, but when you find someone who has found their calling, don't they seem to have boundless energy? aren't they able to accomplish more because to them it isn't just a job?
Our paychecks-This is also a form of money that is unique because we can place our intent into our money. If we choose not to take an active role in the direction of our money, then others will decide for us through marketing. Consider that if you are a vegetarian or vegan, you can choose to support your beliefs by NOT going to McDonalds or eating meat. therefore, when you support vendors and products that are in alignment with your beliefs, you are spending your energy in a very efficient way.
Free time-what we do in our free time equates to a lot of energy as well. If we spend our free time doing something that is contrary to our beliefs then we are playing tug of war with our own energy. There are those among us that volunteer a tremendous amount of their time working for a cause. Those folks are spending their time in a meaningful, efficient way. Smart.
Ok, so there are other forms of energy, but let's just consider the few that we have talked about. Let's just say that I want to accomplish something specific. If I spend the majority of my time, thinking, feeling, speaking, working, eating and volunteering in ways that would align myself with my goal then wouldn't I be able to accomplish more that someone who is ignorant of all the different sources of energy.
You see, when we align all of our available energy into a sharply focused beam, we can accomplish more that some people can accomplish in several lifetimes, especially when you can learn to teach others the value of focused energy and they line up to work towards a goal you have set. That is how you leverage energy to accomplish big things in a short life.
Now...Suck it up, Buttercup!

Lemonade! Lemonade!
The best time to tell someone’s character is....
when they are having a tough time. That's right, when people or nations are having a great time and money is flowing and everything is hunky-dory, it's tough to tell who has character and integrity. It's when things get tough that we get to see the ugly face behind the mask.
As the pressure cooker builds up pressure around the United States it will become clearer and clearer who has integrity and who doesn't. I am not talking about politics either, I am talking about regular people; you and I and our families. Who is ready to ride out this storm and who isn't? Who is going to resort to blaming the world for their problems and who is going to take the bull by the horns? Who is going to throw the lemons away, and who is going to make lemonade?
Time will only tell. These trying times are not an inconvenient interruption to what was a great life, these tough times create the opportunity to make our lives great!
I for one, am thankful that I have this tremendous opportunity to shine!
Call me if you would like to buy some lemonade!

The sky is falling! The sky is falling!
Current mood: triumphant
Get over it! The sky is not falling for crying out loud! We all may be in for some pretty "hard" times for the next few years, but the sky is certainly not falling!
When I say "hard" times, let me be crystal clear...we may not be able to eat out 4 out of 5 nights a week, and we may actually have to learn to cook and figure out a way to entertain ourselves other than drinking, going to movies, shopping, buying new cars, boats, jet skis, snow skis, vacations, disney world etc. Nope, we might just have to take a walk after dinner and help our kids do their homework. Hard times indeed!
Take the opportunity to spend more and better time with your family and friends and do without some of the luxuries that you have come to view as your right as an American, and you will be fine...
Now, let's talk about the true American Spirit! In my opinion, these are the times that create the biggest opportunities for those who care to open their eyes. I see this market as probably the biggest opportunity that I will probably see in my lifetime, maybe in many lifetimes. There is such a staggering transfer of money right now and that money is BEGGING for a reasonable return on investment...read as, a place to go and invest. If you ever had a business plan or idea, now is the time to be out in the market talking about your passion...the money is out there to be sure.
Make absolutely no mistake about it, the crisis we are in right now IS THE OPPORTUNITY!!! Don't miss that point. Opportunity is the greatest when the fewest recognize it....VERY few people recognize the opportunity that is beating us over the head right now. I see it, do you?
The sky is not falling, if anything, it is raining money!

Just say "NO!"
Just say "NO!" to quick fixes.
just say "NO!" to any quick fixes, especially when the government is the one suggesting them. Let's think about this for a second. Can you lose 40 lbs overnight? No! can you overcome alcoholism in one day? No! Can you resolve the crisis in the middle east in one day? No!
QUICK FIXES DON'T WORK! So, why in the hell are we trying to quick fix our economy? There is only one real way to get out of this hell-hole and that is to tighten up the belt around your waste and stop financing (yes that's what you are doing when you are using your credit card) fast food, shoes and all the other crap that is not necessary in your life. We have become a nation of debtors, and yes, I AM ONE OF THEM! I am pissed off at all of us, and yes, chances are you are one of them. It's ok...actually it's not ok, it's very NOT ok, but this is where we are and it is up to us to deal with this, not the government...
It is up to us to make the right voting decisions to keep the government in check, but if you got yourself into debt, then it is yours (and my) responsibility to bail ourselves out. It really is that easy. Now here is the rub...It's going to take some time. That's right, I am going to say it again because it is critically important. IT IS GOING TO TAKE SOME TIME...a lot of time! Years...That's right, get used to it. Oh, here is the other thing, it is going to be uncomfortable for a while. Sorry, but that is reality. If you don't believe me, then let's look at fat people (yes I said fat people...If you are offended you probably should be!) If you want to be skinny, then you have to take the time to eat right and exercise. Changes don't happen overnight. We all know this, yet we don't apply the same principles to our catastrophic economic conditions. This stuff is not rocket science. We spent more money than we had...as a nation of individuals and businesses, we spent more than we had. Now we need to pay our debts back. Doing so is a matter of critical importance. It is good for our creditors (other countries) and it is good for our own collective self esteem as a country. We are in danger of completely (if we haven't done so already) losing our sense of right and wrong...MORALITY.
Keep in mind that if I am criticizing anybody, I am criticizing myself, but I think this applies to a couple of hundred million people. We can get ourselves out of this jam, but not by any easy means. Suck it up, live right, take accountability for your actions and live below your means. You may also want to start taking care of yourselves and going to church as well...it aint gonna hurt, but you make up your own mind, these are just my thoughts.
Suck it up, Buttercup!

New Study
I just heard on the radio this morning that more expensive placebos work better than cheap placebos. Who knows if this study is real, but what I do believe is that our minds are the key to our health...not medicine. It seems as if the east has figured that our thousands of years ago, but the west has yet to fully embrace the power of our own minds as healing entities.
It does sort of crack me up though. Think about it, more expensive placebos work better than cheap placebos. The whole experiment is based on fraud to begin with and now we are measuring the degree of our fraud and how well it works. There are so many things wrong with it, but at the same time so many things right about it. We have the power to do so many things, yet we give our power to things and people for that matter who do nothing but use our energy because of our own apathetic tendencies to believe we can do it ourselves.
We haven't begun to scratch the surface of our own human potential....Rob

Rob's bail out plan
Bail Out Plan
I know this is a radical plan...but how about everyone bail themselves out of the miserable condition that they are in. How about this...stop relying on the government to fix all of our problems all the time. too many people complain about the government and then turn around and ask for help the second they get into trouble. It pisses me off.
Nobody twisted your arm when you bought a house that you couldn't afford. And nobody twisted your arm when you refinanced your house to the hilt. And nobody twisted your arm to spend all of that money elsewhere on things that you couldn't liquidate or appreciate in value. In fact, you probably had to do some finagling to get the loan to go through in the first place. If not being able to afford it in the first place wasn't a red flag, then the fact that you and your loan officer had to do a kabuki dance to get the loan to go through should have been your real big wake up call. So now, you are in foreclosure or facing it and I have to bail you out? I don't think so! I have my own baggage from my own stupid mistakes to deal with and you know what? I am dealing with them, not you. so how about this...you deal with your problems in a responsible way and pick yourself up by the bootstraps just like I have to do.
if everyone would just stop spending what they don't have, we wouldn't be in this big of a predicament...Is it going to take a long time to correct itself? YOU BET! It's all screwed up, it isn't supposed to get fixed over night...if it does, then it isn't a lasting fix. The problem is habitual...you don't fix habitual problems overnight. If we were able to address the spending habits of 200 million people, then this quick fix might take root and truly solve something, but my name is not Gandhi and I can't pretend to have influence over 200 million people.
The debt is not the problem. The banking industry is not the problem, the American people are the problem...and yes I am one of them, and yes I AM part of the problem. Until we take personal accountability for ourselves and our collective contribution to the problem, the problem will never go away. There is no quick fix. It is as much a moral problem as it is a behavioral problem...and that is going to take a very long time to fix, if it can be fixed at all.

Right where you are supposed to be
Right where I am supposed to be
Put this one under any category you want...Consider that you are exactly where you are supposed to be and everything that is happening is happening is according to the master plan.
Here is the cool thing...you are late on your car payment because it is part of the master plan. You aren't feeling well because it is all part of the master plan. It kind of feels better to know that you are EXACTLY where you are supposed to be RIGHT NOW, even though it might not be where you want to be. Just know that everything happens for a reason and right when you think you are in the middle of one of life's hail storms, know that you are exactly where you are supposed to be.
We are almost never able to see through to the other side of life's storms and squalls, but if we trust that there are good things on the other side and furthermore that we will weather this storm as well as every other storm, we can begin to live our lives. Acceptance is key here folks. Stop resisting those things that we have no control over.
The one thing that you can control is your frame of mind. Think about it, there is so little that we actually control, but the one thing that is ours to control is our own state of mind and our own thought process. Of course there are exceptions, but by and large, that is all we totally control.
You are right where you are supposed to be...flawed and all. If the bill collectors are calling, be comfortable in the knowlege that it is not the end of the world and that it is all part of the master plan. If they keep calling again and again and again, you may want to take some evasive action like PAY YOUR BILLS...but, you control the thought process.
Take care,
Rob

Words Like Cannon Balls
Words like Canon Balls!
I have been told that at times I am like a bull in a china shop. It is true. When I have my mind set on something, I tend to persist towards my goal in a driving, blinding manner which is not always pleasing to those around me. I understand that and have made serious progress in understanding the dynamics of action and words.
Knowing that my passion is sometimes interpretted as aggression, I purposefully tone down conversations at times so that I don't appear to be aggressive. Understand that it is contrary to my nature, but I relish the challenge of personal growth. Well over a year ago, I encountered a highly volatile situation that was not going to be easily resolved. I lost sleep the night before the big confrontation and thought endlessly about the ensuing mess.
The next morning, I got up early and crafted my concerns as professionally and concisely as possible in the form of a one-page letter. I really worked on the tone and nature of the letter. My goal was not to make anything personal to anyone. My goal was to state my concerns in a professional manner.
As the meeting approached, I brought in a yellow legal pad and a couple of copies of the letter that I wrote. Sure enough, the meeting spiraled into a heated conversation. Up to that point, I was completely quiet, just observing the nature of the conversation. then I spoke up...quietly to be sure, but with reverence and conviction. My tone was absolutely even. I proceeded to read my letter. It had the effect of a bomb going off. The effect was not just instant, it was long lasting.
I severed myself from the company I had founded in that letter and the effects continue to ripple even to this day. There were only a few people present at that meeting that I still speak to and they recall a slightly different version of the story than I tell. They tell it with me being the loud and boisterous individual that I have been known to be. I know that is their perception, and from a perception stand point, they are absolutely right. In reality, I calmly read a letter which had the words like cannon balls, fired under the even tone of my breath.
The force of words can be catastrophic. I don't know that I have always understood or respected that. In fact, until recently, I am sure that I have not respected that idea. It is clear to me now, that we all have the power and weild it every day. Some of us use it wisely, some of us don't. But at least we should be aware of the power of our words. I am just beginning to understand the devastating power of our words and our intent.
Respectfully,
Rob

Don't try this at home
Live on Purpose (Kids. don’t try this at home!)
You know, sometimes I wonder about people. I mean, they are wandering through their own lives like nomads; aimlessly. That is ok, if that is what you want, don't get me wrong. But I think there is something to be said for those few people who live "on purpose." Yeah, those people that are out there living their lives and trying new things and finding out what life is about. Challenging the status quo and finding their own happiness. I love it when I come across these folks either on purpose or on accident.
Try this little experiment. You may want to do this when nobody else is in the house so they don't think you are losing your mind...but I seriously want you to try this. Get in front of your bathroom mirror...no, not the full length one...and no, I am not going to tell you to get naked (unless you want to be naked) I want you to get right up to the mirror where you can look into the eye of your soul. For a moment or two or as long as you like, stand there and look yourself in the eye like you have never done before. Stare hard at yourself and see if you can find your conviction. You are a fascinating person, complex and powerful. See if you can feel your power as you stare into your soul. See if you can feel conviction in your life. Ask yourself out loud, if you are built for this life? Ask yourself any question for that matter...here is the funny thing...You can't lie to yourself. I mean, you can lie to yourself, but it is much harder if you are looking yourself dead in the eye. Ask yourself an important question and see how you react to your own interview (now you can see why you may want to do this when you are alone)
Don't let yourself off the hook either, hold yourself accountable for answering with integrity. Then stop. That's right, stop. Just look at yourself eyeball to eyeball in the mirror and think about the person you are. Are you comfortable, uncomfortable, happy, sad? There is no right or wrong answer here, but do pay attention to how you feel as it is a key indicator to what is really going on in your life.
Personally, I feel incredibly focused and driven when I have these "mirror sessions." I love the conviction and energy that flows through my veins. Try it, I would be very interested to know what you experienced.
In the mean time, Suck it up, Buttercup!

Let Them Eat Cake!
My version of "Let them eat cake!"
Current mood: focused
Category: Jobs, Work, Careers
So if you are comfortable with the idea of putting all of your eggs into one basket and you have taken the plunge to start a business; congratulations! Now you may come to a point in time where you want to take your business to a whole new level, when you make that decision, you may find that you need more capital. If you have arrived at that place, don't panic. In fact, you should be congratulated for taking the leap and understanding that you are going to give up some of your equity to make your vision a reality.
So, you begin taking money from investors and wouldn't you know it? the market changes! and it changes big! Now, the business plan that you had is completely out of whack because it has dried up overnight. What do you do? First of all, you re-read page 24 of Suck it up, Buttercup! then you take a deep breath.
Let's say that your business plan was to bake the perfect cake. Things were going along fine, then all of a sudden..BAM! Cakes are out and vegetables are in! What do you do? Well, like it or not, your investors have a right to recieve a return on their investment into your company. The last thing that they want to hear is that the market has changed, or that conditions are not right or that you couldn't get supplemental financing or better terms with vendors. They don't care...trust me on this one. They invested in an idea, and more importantly, they invested in YOU. Don't ever forget that ideas are great, but ideas don't make money, people do...more specfically, leaders do. So, if the market changes, you better make sure that you aren't drinking your own kool-aid, because if you are you are going down the tubes in a hurry.
Be open and brutally honest with yourself. Don't cut yourself any slack and don't give yourself any excuses for failure. If you need to change course, then analyze the facts, do your best to understand the influencing factors and make a command decision. Make it as subtle or as radical as you need it to be depending on the circumstances, but make a decision and then act on it.
So, if your investors wanted cake, let them eat cake, but in the mean time, get into a business that is profitable and that allows you to give them a return on their investment.

how many times do i have to tell you...
Current mood: catalyzed
Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes
How many times do I have to tell you that it's not about the goal! It's about the journey! The journey is the goal...to journey is the goal. To strive is the goal. The goal is an illusion, the journey is real. The fight is real. The belt is nothing. The workouts, the training, the commitment, the struggle, the tears, the passion...those are all real. The fake pot of gold at the end of the rainbow is bogus. don't miss the point.
It is all there is. Everything else is fake. don't prepare for the day when everything will be better...today is here and it is the only day. Today. How will you act today? Right now! It's all that you ever have in every second of the day...all you have is, righ now. What are you going to do RIGHT NOW. History is being made RIGHT NOW! You are shaping your history RIGHT NOW! You are shaping your future, RIGHT NOW! Don't you get it? that is all that we ever have...every choice that we make every second of every day. Regardless of what you think you control, all you are really in control of is RIGHT NOW...what are you doing RIGHT NOW that will change your life, or make your life better or get you out of debt or make you skinny, or make you strong or make you healthy. I ask this because you have a decision to make and there is only one point in time that you can make that decision...and that pinpoint of time is RIGHT NOW!
What the hell are you going to do, suffer for the rest of your RIGHT NOW life? or will you make a decision to be fully aware all the time, right now. It is all we have. What are you doing right now?
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO RIGHT NOW THAT WILL MAKE A PROFOUND DIFFERENCE IN YOUR LIFE?

Therapy or Start a Business
Ok, so you are thinking about starting your own business, right? Exciting, right? What are you STUPID? Have you really considered all that it takes to go into business? I suggest that anyone who decides to take the plunge to seriously have their head examined...seriously...I did. It's called therapy! and no I am not kidding. We all have baggage and it will absolutely come out in the wash, so you better make sure your head is screwed on straight before you throw your life into turmoil.
For starters, I am forever hearing about the next "great idea." Hell, I even had 2 retired Naval Officers (whom I have a ton of respect for) tell me about the next great idea. No real experience in the real world, no financials, no track record no answers for the basic questions and certainly no start-up experience. And yes, if anyone ever leaks this to the Naval Academy I am sure I will get raked over the coals. Whatever! Being a Naval Officer does not make you an entrepreneur! Deal with it, it is reality. It may help you become a successful entrepreneur, but it certainly guarantee it....
...but I digress. If you decide to forgo therapy you will find out very quickly where you are lacking in the development of your psyche. The pressure will find ways to seek the weakest points of you mind and explode them into business issues that you absolutely need to deal with. You can do it yourself, or you can employ somebody to deal with them, but one way or another, you will need to compensate for your natural misgivings. And believe me, nobody is perfect. the quicker you find out what your hang-ups are, the quicker you will learn to deal with them head-on or circumnavigate them. If you don't know what your hang-ups are, you are pretty much in for a rough ride. You can still succeed, but in my opinion, being an entrepreneur is more about knowing yourself than it is about knowing business. And if you had to know one before the other I would pick knowledge of self above business, for so many obvious reasons.
In any case, if you are stupid enough to jump in feet first, all I have to say is "Welcome to the jungle, baby!"
Rob

And believe me, nobody is perfect. the quicker you find out what your hang-ups are, the quicker you will learn to deal with them head-on or circumnavigate them. If you don't know what your hang-ups are, you are pretty much in for a rough ride. You can still succeed, but in my opinion, being an entrepreneur is more about knowing yourself than it is about knowing business. And if you had to know one before the other I would pick knowledge of self above business, for so many obvious reasons.
In any case, if you are stupid enough to jump in feet first, all I have to say is "Welcome to the jungle, baby!"

DC
Current mood: driven
Good Morning from Ling Ling's laptop...no not the panda, my partner Ling-Ling from China...lots going on right now, but really just wanted to check in to say that you just have to keep pushing to get ahead. It really isn't a secret, just keep pushing and keep striving, eventually the big bully called "life" will stop getting in your way because it isn't fun anymore, and he will quietly go away. Consider that the world is full of people who will let "life" bully them around, so it is much easier to pass you by than to bully you anymore.
This is an interesting trip...only time will tell if we are able to grow Eco-Green Living the way that I think we can. It's a ballsy move, even for me, but I wouldn't take it on if I didn't think we had a serious chance at it.
Keep your eye on www.eco-greenliving.com to see how we progress! Also, it looks like we have just landed the re-election campaign for the Mayor of Virginia Beach...very cool!

My hero!
Cancer
Current mood: inspired
Category: Life
I have this friend who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. I have always had a high degree of respect for her, but my respect has risen to a whole new level. As it turns out, she has had a mastectomy and today is her seventh out of eight treatments. I called her this morning to tell her how proud I am of her and she was just completing her morning run...she didn't tell me the distance, but I can guarantee you it was probably over 7 miles. She runs marathons and 1/2 marathons and she is a total inspiration to me, but I don't want the point I am trying to make to be missed.
SHE WAS GOING IN FOR HER 7th TREATMENT, BUT NOT BEFORE SHE GOT A RUN IN! That's what I am talking about when I say Suck it up, Buttercup! She has a no B.S. commitment to running and she is not going to let anything, including CANCER get in the way. Holy crap! this is a regular person, not an olympic athlete or Lance Armstrong...she has a job, kids in college (3 to be exact!) and a life...and here she is kicking cancer square in the balls by going out and running before her Chemo...She rocks! and it is all in a days work. No whining, no bitching, no complaining...The world needs more people like her in it. she is my hero!

and yet another one...
again. I am just checking to find out how all of this high-technology integrates with each other. I mean really. I am an old dog, but I am certainly learning new tricks...Check out some of these places and try them out for yourself. It damn sure doesn't hurt your search engine rankings. If you don't believe me just search for Robert D. Cass or Suck it up, Buttercup! on Yahoo or Google...Not bad huh? 9 1/2 more years of this and I should have something good to sell...Time will only tell...Rob

Not real good with names
Today I give the Suck it up, Buttercup! award to the guy who won the decathlon...I think his name is Brian Clay...but I am not real good with names. Anyway, this guy is a regular guy with kids and he finds time to be a good husband and father and whatever his day job is...and by the way, he is probably one of those guys that never misses a day or never complains about anything. And in his free time, he has the time to train for a decathlon...holy crap! that is a guy who does not use excuses! He embodies the spirit of SIUB! (Suck it up, Buttercup!)
To you, Mr. Gold Medal Olympic Decathlon Champion...the world needs more people like you!
By winning a gold medal, it is the equivalent of telling the world to SUCK IT UP, BUTTERCUP!
Thanks!

Apparel for Suck it up, Buttercup! Whodathunkit?
Seriously. Who would have thought that anyone would ever buy apparel from a book, or about a book...crazy right? apparently not...I just checked my cafepress site, which happens to be www.cafepress.com/siub and there were sales for the month of July..How cool is that?! Since nobody reads my blog, I will answer with a resounding, VERY COOL!
5 Items were bought and I can't figure out for the life of me where the sales came from, but because of the great age of computers, I can tell where the sale generated from...Ontario Canada! Rock on!

This aint no disco!
nope, this aint no disco! this is the real world and nobody wants to hear any excuses. the world loves a leader that offers no excuses, so I don't offer any either. At some point you need to pick your ass up by the boot straps and haul yourself into the day with a vigor that only comes from within. You know what? today is one of those days, and come to think of it, every day is one of those days. Nobody is going to hold a parade for you, so you need to hold one for yourself. Get out there, get it done and be grateful that you have the opportunity to get ahead by working your tail off. That's how it is and it isn't about to change any time soon.
Rock on and stop whining.

No hugs for those who don't perform
This isn't elementary school or highschool. This is business. That's it. Sometimes, we just need results and not excuses. Everyone has an excuse. George Washington had plenty of excuses not to succeed, but none of them were acceptable. None of them were reasonable...no, I take that back, all of the excuses that George Washington were completely reasonable. The fact that he was unreasonable and uncompromising is the reason I have the freedom to write these words right now...whether anyone reads them or not. It is unreasonable to forge ahead sometimes and make things happen in an inelegant kind of way. But if that is what needs to happen then maybe it is the most elegant solution of all. After all, we can't always hug our way to success; at some point we need to break a sweat and be reprimanded for not meeting the requirements of success. Sometimes that sucks to hear, but the truth is you gotta have a little fear and a little drive to get ahead. Hell, our forefathers knew that.
Rock on!

First things First
If you don't have the olfactory gland that let's you detect sarcasm, then you probably won't understand the genuine genius that is known as Suck it up, Buttercup! thebook. The problem is that too many people expect to be spoon fed to the degree they can no longer think for themselves. Pity. Sarcasm is such a drippingly delicious morsel that should be enjoyed with a healthy sense of "shut the hell up, I was just kidding" humor. Lighten up a little. Laugh at yourself first, then you won't feel so bad when you laugh at others, or more importantly, when they laugh at you.
Nothing is so disarming as to be able to laugh at yourself with others.
